For Experienced Sailors Who Want to Improve Boat Handling, Maneuvering & Docking Skills

Fast Track® to Boat Handling & Docking 111 is a four-day advanced refresher course designed for experienced sailors who have US Sailing Bareboat Cruising or equivalent certification earned within five years of course start date. This boat handling and docking course focuses on enhancing your ability to handle a large cruising boat in close quarters and various conditions, while docking and maneuvering.

Learn on 40′-47′ Monohulls or Catamarans

Instruction is on 40’-47’ monohull or catamaran yachts, ideal for future chartering or ownership. If you originally received certification aboard a monohull and take this Boat Handling & Docking course aboard a catamaran, you will earn a US Sailing Catamaran Endorsement sticker (114).

Comprehensive Cruising Course Big Boat Skills Practiced in 4 Full Days

In this Fast Track® course you will be sailing 6-8 hours a day, going through drills to make you a better big boat sailor, stopping midday for lunch aboard while heaving to or at anchor. As the next-step-up to the Offshore Sailing School Live Aboard Cruising Course 103/104, participants are expected to be competent sailors who already feel comfortable navigating, sailing and maneuvering large yachts and can identify anchor types with anchoring experience including use of proper scope. A Sailing Resume detailing recent and frequent experience on big cruising yachts is required before enrollment in this course can be confirmed.

Packed with Maneuvers and Drills Under Power and Sail

Sailing instructors with a wealth of experience provide tailored guidance and intensive training in both power-driven and under-sail maneuvers. Practical, hands-on exercises are aboard 40′-47′ monohull or cruising yachts, focusing on real-life scenarios to refresh and reinforce your sailing capabilities. At the helm and as crew, emphasis is on advancing docking strategies and refining boat handling techniques when skippering and crewing on large sailing vessels. Completion of this course leaves you refreshed, more confident in handling big yachts, and better prepared for chartering or owning a cruising yacht.

Taught by Offshore Sailing School’s US Sailing-Certified Instructors 

The maximum number of students taught in this Boat Handling and Docking Course is four per instructor, per boat, learning with a certified US Sailing instructor experienced in teaching on large monohulls and catamarans. Participants rotate through all the tasks, covering important skills to fully prepare for maneuvering and docking big boats without hired crew:

• Weather related to the area where the course takes place
• Trouble shooting tips for engine issues
• Standard docking alongside
• Single engine docking
• Med-moor docking both bow-in and stern-in
• Anchoring in close quarters for stern-in med mooring
• Picking up a mooring ball
• Maneuvering around other boats and in close quarters
