Ultimate Comfort and Performance in a Superb Sailing YachtJeanneau Sun Odyssey 479 at Florida Offshore Sailing School

Briand’s goal to provide ultimate comfort is obvious the minute you step aboard. Four spacious cabins each have an ensuite private bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Cabins, heads and storage areas flow into the main salon with no door sills and no steps. Lots of light from hull ports and long coach roof windows, augmented by low power LED lights, illuminate the yacht’s rich wood and stainless-steel interior. Ergonomic handrails provide safe, easy movement in rough seas. The companionway has secure handholds and curved steps. Berths are the longest and widest in this yacht’s size category.

Superior Quality FinishingsJeanneau Sun Odyssey 479 at Florida Offshore Sailing School

Floor boards are hand-crafted and fully removable for access. Multiple coats of UV-stabilized varnish ensure no changes in color over time. Much of the wood below is from ALPI which uses an Eco-sustainable process to break down and reproduce textures and colors by combining poplar, lime wood and other varieties to enhance the warm and bright interior. Long-lasting teak wood is used exclusively on the exterior.

Dynamic Sailing CharacteristicsJeanneau Sun Odyssey 479 at Florida Offshore Sailing School

Because we sail in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound, the Offshore Sailing School new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 479 is the shoal draft version with depth of 5’4”. The mast is designed to clear ICW bridges and is the classic jiffy reef system. Designed for dynamic sailing, the winged keel provides increased lift upwind. A high ballast ratio provides increased stability and excellent motion in heavy seas. Balanced steering from the combination of foil design and sail plan makes this yacht responsive and fun to sail in all conditions. The yacht’s hull chine and moderate freeboard design is not only classy, it results in greater stability, longer waterline, and more interior volume.

Efficient and Powerful

For our Live Aboard Cruising Courses there’s plenty of hot water from large hot water heaters. The engine, and all mechanical features of the boat are easy to access and service. A powerful three-blade propeller results in less vibration. Anchoring is easy with a big windlass, direct access from deck to the anchor locker with watertight bulkhead, and more clearance thanks to a bowsprit. Air conditioning, heating, and appliances are all engineered at early stages of design to ensure proper positioning, serviceability and efficiency.

High Aspect Rig Provides Great Sailing in Light and Heavy AirJeanneau Sun Odyssey 479 at Florida Offshore Sailing School

The 479’s high aspect ratio rig results in better performance and ease of handling. It appears it has the best sail area to displacement (SA/D) ratio in its class. This Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 479 has a furling Code O sail, excellent family cruising sails for light winds. It also has an asymmetrical spinnaker and equipment.

Exceeds All International StandardsJeanneau Sun Odyssey 479 at Florida Offshore Sailing School

For the builders and engineers among us, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 479 exceeds all international standards: ISO for structure, Category A for CE, ABYC, USCG. Maximum resistance is achieved through 3rd generation counter mold lamination to hull – no coring, robust, durable, hand lay-up. Structural chain plates are integrated directly into the counter mold. The integrated engine liner means fewer vibrations, assures alignment, and enhances structure. Bulkheads are fully bonded with 360° advanced polyurethane adhesives.
