SHOULD YOU CHOOSE THE FAST TRACK COURSE OR GO STRAIGHT INTO THE CRUISING COURSE?
It all depends on how much sailing experience you already have. If you currently sail on boats of at least 26′ (which is what we teach the first two days of Fast Track on) and feel confident in steering and crewing, then by all means, go straight into the Live Aboard Cruising course or the stay-ashore version of that course. If you don’t know anything at all about sailing, have some experience on smaller boats but don’t feel very confident to sail on your own; if you used to sail a lot but are feeling rusty – then the Fast Track to Cruising course is what you should take.
What Do We Mean by “True-Learning?”
The best way to truly learn to sail and handle a cruising boat is on a monohull. Yes, we know a lot of sailors want catamaran training, and we do have catamaran courses, but you will never get the true feeling of what it is to sail if that’s where you start. If you are a beginner, in 7 days you gain the knowledge and skills to successfully manage big yachts. You start out on a Colgate 26, designed by renowned sailing educator, Steve Colgate, and for two days you get the true feel of sailing. If your goal is to start cruising, this is the only way to truly absorb the whys and hows of sailboat performance. When the boat heels because the wind on the sails is driving the forces that make a sailboat move, you learn to manage the angle of that heel by adjusting the sails in and out and changing your steering angles. You are “True-Learning” how sailboats perform in wind and sea conditions. Once you master these techniques, you can then move to any type boat, including catamarans. It may be hard to understand, but on a catamaran you are basically sailing a powerboat with a mast. 
What a wonderful and educational vacation. I love the feel when the wind takes over and the sails begin to perform. The nights we had on board and the dinners were incredible. A table with a view. Our instructor, Kelly, was very knowledgeable and helpful. We appreciate all the time he gave to us.

True Learning Happens When the Boat Talks to You
When the wind makes the boat lean to one side or the other as you head “upwind,” and you know how to make it turn smoothly through the wind and seas without an engine, this is True Learning! When the boat starts to vibrate with the force of the wind on the sails as you are pushed downwind, and you know how to truly control the force of the wind in the sails as you move them from one side of the boat to the other, this is True Learning! And this is when the boat, and you, are in synch and the boat “talks” to you and your crewmates.
Overall experience was fabulous! Sail instruction and 2 days
on Colgate 26 laid a nice foundation to moving up to the Jeanneau 439, which seemed daunting. But our instructor segued me into feeling comfortable and confident by the 2nd day. He did a fine job instructing us in the classroom and on the water. From the moment we shook introductory handshakes I felt we were in good, knowledgeable and experienced hands. All that proved true and the entire Fast Track experience was a pleasure.
